Where to eat in Ulaanbaatar
Restaurants worth knowing in the capital: Mongolian dishes with an English picture menu, cheap buuz chains for a quick lunch, and Italian, Indian and vegan places for a break from mutton after a countryside trip.
- Modern Nomads (Restaurants, Several branches; one on Amar Street near the centre): Mongolian restaurant chain with a picture menu, a good first place to try khuushuur, buuz, tsuivan and Mongolian barbecue.
- Khaan Buuz (Restaurants, Tserendorj Street (central branch); branches across Mongolia): Cheap and quick Mongolian fast food: steamed buuz dumplings, khuushuur and soups, with branches all over the city.
