Potala Coffee Shop

A Tibetan-themed café high above the city near Gandan Monastery, with big windows, butter tea and a vegetarian menu. A calm stop after visiting the monastery.

Potala sits on the 11th floor of a building close to Gandan Monastery, and floor-to-ceiling windows look out over the monastery and the surrounding neighbourhoods. The interior draws on Tibetan culture, with shelves of books on Buddhism and Mongolian culture, and the mood is quiet and peaceful.

Alongside coffee it serves Tibetan butter tea and a vegetarian Tibetan-style food menu including soups, which makes it a good lunch spot. Wi-Fi and power outlets are available at the tables, so it also works for a few hours of laptop time.
