Kharkhorin & Karakorum Museum

The site of Karakorum, Chinggis Khaan's imperial capital, with a modern museum of its archaeology.

Little remains above ground of the 13th-century capital, but the Karakorum Museum displays coins, ceramics, tools and a model of the city as it looked at its height. On a hill above town, the Monument to the Mongol Empires shows maps of the empire at different periods.
