Hustai National Park

Where the takhi, the world's only truly wild horse, was brought back from extinction in the wild.

Przewalski's horses (takhi) were reintroduced here in the 1990s and now live in several wild herds. The park is about two hours west of Ulaanbaatar; the horses come down to the valleys around dusk. Red deer, gazelles and marmots are common too.

  • Region: Central Mongolia (Töv)
  • Best time: All year, best at dusk
  • Time needed: Half a day or 1 night
  • Entry: Park fee

Tips

  • Bring binoculars and keep your distance from the horses.
